About Benjamin Alamar

Benjamin Alamar adeptly juggles many balls. He's a sports analytics consultant, researcher, speaker, and author of "Sports Analytics: A Guide for Coaches, Managers, and Other Decision Makers" (Columbia University Press, March 2013). He's also a professor of sports management at Menlo College in Menlo Park, California.

He's consulted with a variety of teams in the NFL and NBA, including five seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder as well as private and publicly-held companies.

Benjamin has published numerous research studies in sports analytics and has provide his perspective on this topic for ESPN, Analytics Magazine, and the Wall Street Journal.

Professor Alamar is the founding editor of the Journal of Quantitative Analysis in Sports, the first peer-reviewed academic journal for research in sports analytics.

He's married to his high school sweetheart and together they have three children. All three kids participate in performance art and play an assortment of different sports. While Benjamin has coached some of their teams, he swears he leaves sports analytics principles on the sidelines.
